Reed Lakes=Best Hike in Alaska!

Okay, okay, I know we say this for almost every hike we do, but this one for sure is our top favorite!
It's the most interactive, engaging hike....your senses are stimulated every step of the way!
And it gives you so many opportunities to pause & contemplate God's greatness!
The first thing we saw was an extensive series of beaver dams, ponds & lodges:
We even saw a beaver swim across one of the ponds and climb out:
The kids absolutely LOVED this hike where fun, challenges & adventure presented themselves at every turn!
There are endless rocks to jump to & from:
Multiple streams to cross:
HUGE Rocks to climb:
Rock caves to hide in:
Crystal-clear ponds and gurgling streams to walk along:
Several boulder fields to climb over (the trail is temporarily lost until you navigate through to the other side):
The rocks that a glacier left behind thousands of years ago were gigantic!!
Oodles of waterfalls:
Reed Lakes is definitely about the journey, not the destination (although the destinations--Lower & Upper Reed Lakes--ARE spectacular!) The perfect portrayal of the word "pristine"!
The first lake you reach is "Lower Reed Lake" (because you have to hike higher to get to the second one):
Note: these photos are NOT enhanced...the color is all God's!
"The end of the road"....the trail dead-ends in this basin filled with crystal clear aqua water known as "Upper Reed Lake":
Our kids get along so well on hikes, it's such a refreshing blessing (as opposed to all those hrs on the road bickering in the backseat!)
Bonus treat on the last stretch back to the car--blueberries!!
A nice way to end the 9 hr/9 mile hike! (Normally a mile an hr would be a really poor hiking average, but considering all that we did along the way, it was worth every step and every hour!) Jonas was so exhausted from being completely physically active for 9 hrs straight that he fell asleep immediately on the drive back!
