Alaska AGAIN!!

Okay, so we DID end up in Alaska one last time.
Hyder (population 100) is only 2.3 miles from Stewart, British Colombia and stays on Pacific Time, but the post office has to follow Alaska Time since it's a federal building.

Hyder is the 3rd and final town in the SE that can be reached by car (driving through Canada). Actually, that is the only way you can get to Hyder, as it is not connected to the Alaska Marine Hwy. There is a very narrow canal that the salmon runs come up from the ocean to spawn, but it's not big enough for ferries or cruise ships. Any time you have salmon spawning, you're going to find bears...but Hyder has an especially large concentration of them. In fact, the very first thing we saw when we entered town was this mamma with two cubs:
There is a boardwalk area where you can view the bears fishing:
Unfortunately we didn't get any good pictures of them feeding because it was evening & overcast, so we just had to enjoy the experience w/o recording it (the few pics we took are blurry). We saw 2 grizzlies & 3 blacks at the stream where tons of pink salmon were spawning.
