The Homer Spit

The Spit is a long narrow strip of land (like a mini peninsula) where the Sterling Hwy ends. Homer boasts of being "a small drinking community with a fishing problem".

They have quaint shops along boardwalks on the spit as well as tons of deep-sea fishing charters.

We ate at our favorite fish & chips place! Fresh halibut just brought in off the boat! Yum!!

The Spit is where we used to come in the winter to get all our Bald Eagle shots (for those of you who have seen our pictures of hundreds of eagles all gathered together). In the summer they are not nearly as concentrated, but you still see them overhead and perched here & there:
