Worthington Glacier was our favorite hike out of all 5 years when we lived up here. You get to ridge walk almost the entire way and there's incredible views on all sides! Unfortunately we didn't get the top views of the ice field (it was clouded over), but we feel so blessed that it didn't rain like they called for and we were fortunate to make it as high as we did! The best part was hiking with dear friends from our church in Anchorage (who flew up here for the church reunion). We are traveling with them for a couple days down to Valdez.
Obviously we ignored the signs. We only had to do a little bush wracking ;)
Anissa couldn't help but keep singing "Climb every mountain...." from the Sound of Music! ;)
Of course the kids led the way!
The parents bringing up the rear.
Their daughter & Alea have the same disposition and get along so well.
And, as always, Jonas instantly has fun with the boys! (Don't they look so sweet in this picture?)
The moms who were friends before they were moms!!!
There's views of the glacier the whole way up!
Looking back down into the valley.
Halfway up we parted company...they took the low road, we took the high road.
Looking down the glacier:
Still higher up to that snowy basin...
Over the next ridge...
Across a snow field...
(Believe it or not we were hot going up!!!!)
We finally made it!! Breathtaking! God you are AMAZING!!! We stand in awe of your handiwork!
The sun even broke through the clouds when we were up there!! "Every blessing you pour out, I'll turn back to praise!"
"Thanks Madeline for the awesome homemade head wrap!"
The kids had a blast sliding (and in Jonas' case somersaulting) down the snow!!!
Heading down....
Off the snow...
Back to ridge walkin...
The clouds lifted & It was gorgeous coming down! Almost down....
One last look over our shoulder at the glacier...
We made it safely back to our dear ole Honda Fit! And look the sun is shining!!
