Denali National Park offers free demonstrations during the summer of the Alaskan Huskies & sleds they actually use during the winter to patrol the park. (Snowmobiles would NOT be environmentally friendly or as safe as the dog teams).

Our Iditarod baby! In 2001 Alea was due on the day of the Iditarod. She ended up being 3 days late, so we got to go to one last Iditarod (both the ceremonial start & official start). Joey's parents had flown up for the birth so that was neat for them to see the Iditarod! They couldn't believe that Anissa was tromping through knee-high snow on her due date, standing on a frozen lake in Willow for hours, just to see the dog teams leave one last time. The Iditarod was one of our special annual traditions during the 5 years we lived here.
