Mt Lion Hike!

We had to take this trail near our campground to watch the sunset through "The Window" of the Chisos Mt Basin. Okay, so we broke 2 of the rules: don't take children on the trail & don't hike in the eve (well how are we supposed to watch the sunset then?? It's one of the listed "must see" sites in the park!) There was one other family at The Window, too, and they had 3 kids even younger than ours. We figured the lion would eat their kids as appetizers and be too full for our kids as the main course ;) Besides Jonas carried a big rock in each hand so we were safe! ;) Don't worry, we didn't run into any cougars or pumas (as they're also called) on the trail. But in Feb a 10 yr old boy was ripped from his mother (holding her hand) on this trail! (Thus the signs). He lived, but has scars on his face where the mt lion bit him!!! His father stabbed it w/ a pocket knife and it ran off. Also at the campground we stayed at, just last mth in July, one was stalking a 3 yr old as she rode her tricycle back & forth in front of their campsite. There are only 2 dozen mt lions in the 1252 sq miles of the park, but an average of 130 (reported) sightings per yr; that means each cougar shows himself an average of 5-6 times. They are actually very secretive animals and they say that anywhere you go in the park there is probably one watching you!
