Darkest place in the Lower 48!
Again we were treated to a nice cool night in the tent. It's amazing that elevation can make for a 20 degree temperature difference! And again, we were treated to a marvelous night sky! We wondered why "all the lights were broken" at the campground, but Big Bend NP purposely doesn't have any exterior lights on because it was designated as the darkest spot in the lower 48 and they are proud of that award! [For those of you who aren't familiar with the term, that's what Alaskans call the contingent (touching) states (excluding Hawaii).] Personally I think Guadalupe NP (where we'd camped the night before) could give them a run for their money; both places seemed equally dark to me! And it was perfect because the moon didn't rise until really late both nights (after we were asleep), so we had complete, clear star gazing at its finest! Jonas was very impressed with the Milky Way. He said, "I can't believe I had to wait my whole life to see this!" Wish we could've shared the view with you!
