"Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all the earth! Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary." Psalm 96:1,6
We see His power in the small cactus flower as much as we do in the Grand Canyon; all of Creation, big & small, reflects His majesty & splendor!
One of the gardeners at the Desert Museum was explaining how the flowers have to be showy to attract the pollinators, because they only have a one shot chance...not even just a one day shot, but specifically just a one afternoon shot! Cactuses either bloom late at night or in the hottest part of the afternoon. (If you didn't catch it in the other post, we learned that each flower only blooms for one day then dies. That same cactus will produce multiple flowers, but each flower only opens for one day). So right as we were feeling kind of dumb for being one of only 3 families there at the "worst" part of the day (looking at the trail map to see how much farther till we are back in some AC), the gardener is gushing about how we are among the lucky few visitors who actually get to see these cactuses in bloom, because most visitors leave before the hottest part of the afternoon!!! :) Without realizing it, Anissa has developed "a thing" for cactuses on this trip; she is smitten by their beauty & variety! They are so fun to take pictures of (on our good camera)!
