Preserving God's Beauty

We all owe a HUGE thank you to our 26th president, Teddy Roosevelt, for all his hard work in conserving & preserving our beautiful country for our children & grandchildren to enjoy!!! During his presidency he designated 150 National Forests, 51 Federal Bird Reservations, 4 National Game Preserves, 18 National Monuments, and 5 National Parks. That is a total of 230 million acres or 1/10 of our country's total land mass that he set aside (in his own words) "for unborn generations"!!!!!! Our Haywood family of 4 is part of that unborn generation that Pres Roosevelt was referring to and our hearts are full of gratitude to him this summer, as we enjoy our country's amazing national parks! [Especially as we gaze with telescope just across the park's boundaries to the many oil rigs that are currently dotting the horizon here in ND, and Roosevelt's Congressional Acts from the early 1900s preventing those rigs from raping the land we enjoyed hiking around today.]
"It is not what we have that will make us a great nation; it is the way in which we use it". Amen Teddy! Another quote we love by him that expresses our family's sentiments: "We have fallen heirs to the most glorious heritage a people ever received, and each one must do his part if we wish to show that this nation is worthy of its good fortune." Preach it brother! :) *Anissa*
