Caprock Coulee Trail in Theodore Roosevelt Nat Park (northern unit....yesterday we were in the southern unit of the park then drove up 1hr and camped in the northern unit).
Halfway thru the loop trail we rested and ate a snack in an original CCC shelter built by the Civilian Conservation Core (an amazing program from the1930s that Teddy's cousin, President FDR, started during the Depression to generate jobs and continue improving on the national lands that Teddy had set aside). A special treat was coming over a crest and seeing a field of orange lillies right at the top of a mountain! We also found wild strawberries along the trail that spurred the kids on! They did great, though, on their first long hike of the season (just a few "how much longer?"s) There was lots of neat landforms for them to climb on along the way, they loved ridge walking, and of course the amazing views made it all worth it!!!
